Bond Referendum for Buildings
Vote on or before August 12

After extensive study and community input, the Board of Education of Yellow Medicine East (YME) School District has unanimously approved a bond referendum for buildings in an August 12, 2025 Special Election. The School Board and District Leaders, working with educational facility experts, assessed the school district’s facilities to determine the following urgent needs:

  • To address and remedy YME schools’ inadequate learning spaces; aging infrastructure; outdated safety and security; and classrooms that are not accessible.

  • Addressing our needs  to create a learning environment that prepares YME students for career and college success.

  • Annual facilities maintenance funding falls short of YME facility needs.

Research shows that student learning is directly impacted by failing school infrastructure. We are confident that with these improvements, students of the Yellow Medicine East School District will have educational opportunities equal to their peers in neighboring  districts and program spaces that inspire students for a successful future.

Additionally, the proposed bond referendum for buildings is a cost-effective investment that will serve the community well into the future. And the proposed referendum has a low tax impact to district residents as it is designed to receive numerous tax credits.
