Are you already registered to vote? Check the Minnesota Secretary of State website to confirm. If you need to register:

  • All residents of Independent School District No. 2190 can register at the polling place and vote during Early Voting. Same day registration checklist.

  • Residents of the City of Clarkfield, who plan to vote on Election Day (August 12), should Register online to receive a ballot by mail.

Absentee Voting by Mail - All Voters

Any registered voter can apply to vote by mail. Fill out an absentee ballot application online at mnvotes.gov/absentee and submit, or print and mail it to:

IMPORTANT NOTE: You can apply any time before Election Day, but do so early to ensure timely delivery of your request.

Completing Your Absentee Ballot by Mail

  • Once you receive the ballot, complete it with a witness (a U.S. citizen, aged 18+, or a notary), who must sign and include their address.

  • Follow all instructions carefully; missing info can lead to rejection .

Returning the Absentee Ballot you Received by Mail

  • By mail: Must be received by Election Day (not just postmarked) .

  • In person: Return to the county election office by 8 p.m. on Election Day .

  • You can also designate an agent (max. 3 voters) to return your ballot under specific circumstances .

City of Clarkfield registered voters must return their completed mail ballot to the Yellow Medicine County Government Center, 180 8th Ave, Granite Falls, MN 56241, before the polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.

All other residents of Independent School District No. 2190 located in Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Redwood, Renville, and Yellow Medicine Counties will vote at one, combined polling place on election day for in-person voting:

(YELLOW MEDICINE EAST), MINNESOTA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a special election has been called and will be held in and for Independent School District No. 2190 (Yellow Medicine East), Minnesota, on August 12, 2025, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to vote on the following questions:

Approval of School Building Bonds

Shall the board of Independent School District No. 2190 (Yellow Medicine East), Minnesota be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $74,395,000 for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including, but not limited to, construction of a new elementary school and secondary school facility attached to the existing gymnasium facility, with secure entrances, outdoor site and athletic improvements and new spaces for technical, agricultural and fine arts education?

This combined polling place services all territory in Independent School District No. 2190 located in located in Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Redwood, Renville, and Yellow Medicine Counties, Minnesota.

All qualified electors residing in the School District may cast their ballots at the polling place listed above during the polling hours specified above.

A voter must be registered to vote to be eligible to vote in the special election. Unregistered individuals may register to vote at the polling place on Election Day.

The owner of a home valued at $150,000 would pay $18/month in property taxes ($220/annually) if the referendum is approved.

YME has the lowest property taxes in the region and is well below the state average.

Operating costs will be reduced.

  • Updated systems will reduce utility costs.

  • Updated facilities will reduce maintenance and repair costs.

  • Operating a single facility provides staffing efficiencies.

The state of Minnesota will pay for almost $40 million of the bond amount because of property tax credits for agricultural property through the Ag2School program.

Residents of the City of Clarkfield, will have two ballot issues to consider in the August 12 Special Election. 

City of Clarkfield registered voters will receive a ballot by mail that must be completed and returned to the Yellow Medicine County Government Center, 180 8th Ave, Granite Falls, MN 56241, before the polls close on Election Day. The County estimates that ballots will be mailed to City of Clarkfield residents the week of July 14, 2025.

NOTE: Mail ballots require a Witness signature - in addition to the voter. A Witness is any person who is at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the election and a citizen of the United States, including your spouse or relative, or a notary public, or a person with authority to administer oaths.

All residents of Independent School District No. 2190 can vote early beginning June 27 at the Government Center.

The Yellow Medicine County Government Center will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday from June 27 through August 11 for early voting.

The Yellow Medicine County Government Center will be open extended hours:

  • Saturday, August 9, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Monday, August 11, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
